About Course

The Respiratory System module provides an in-depth exploration of the anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and therapeutics related to respiratory health and diseases. It is designed to equip pharmacy students with a comprehensive understanding of respiratory function, common respiratory conditions, and the evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies for their management.

This module covers foundational topics such as pulmonary anatomy and physiology, key respiratory diseases like asthma, COPD, and pneumonia, as well as advanced therapies like biologics and antifibrotics. Students will also gain appreciation to practical skills such as interpreting pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gases, and diagnostic imaging.

What Will You Learn?

  • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, including gas exchange and pulmonary function.
  • Learn about common respiratory conditions like asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and interstitial lung diseases.
  • Gain proficiency in the pharmacological management of respiratory diseases, including bronchodilators, inhaled corticosteroids, and biologics.
  • Develop skills in interpreting diagnostic tools like spirometry, arterial blood gases (ABGs), and chest imaging.
  • Explore advanced therapies and special considerations for pediatric and geriatric respiratory care.
